Access manufactures custom keyboard products for industrial, airport, retail EPOS (point of sale), bank and finance keyboard applications. Custom keyboard solutions are frequently based on an existing designs made up over twenty years of solving different keyboard requirements. Starting from an existing keyboard design reduces design costs and speeds up the process of bringing the product to market.

 

Small volumes are available where custom programming or custom keysets and keyboard layouts can easily be produced. Base keyboard and keypad designs exist with between 48 and 127 keys, and are available with QWERTY and matrix layouts.

Keyboard Programming & Layout

Optimised keyboard layout reduce the opportunity for operator error when in use, saving time and money for the organisation. This is enhanced using coloured key tops, the use of larger keys and clear lettering improve ease of use. Macros can be programmed into the keyboard that operate once a key is pressed. Users can create custom programming of their own using freely supplied software and once programmed the key code settings can be downloaded in to the keyboard's memory, which is non-volatile. The programme/configuration can be given to our manufacturing team for mass-programming in production.

 

Biometric Fingerprint Reading

The entering of biometric fingerprint reader data using the industry leading 'U.are.U' module from Digital Persona is proven to be more secure than typed passwords, which can be seen, and user ID cards, which can be stolen and misplaced. In addition, the system protects employees from identity theft for fraud.

 

Integrated Functionality Such as OCR, MSR and Smartcard Reading and Trackballs and Touchpads

Additional devices such as magnetic stripe readers (MSRs), optical character readers (OCRs) and smartcard readers can be integrated into the keyboard to reduce clutter on a desk or counter and to reduce the costs of installation and maintenance.In addition, operator ergonomics can be enhanced as peripherals can be set in the most suitable place and remain there for the operator. Integrated pointing devices reduce the amount of desk space required and takes away the opportunity for these peripherals to be 'borrowed'. The most popular pointing device is the touchpad, although pointing sticks and trackerballs are commonly incorporated into a custom keyboard.

The Design of the Key Switch

The key switch is fundamental to keyboard reliability. Our key switches use gold contacts and have a lifetime of over 50 million key presses. Two-shot moldings are used where printed lettering may wear out with heavy use. The standard Access key switch has a full travel of 4mm making all keyboards perfect for fast data entry and operator ergonomics.

 

Lower cost switches are also available where price is an issue.
